Some of the most common types of DVD media include DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-R-DL, DVD+R+DL, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-RW DL, DVD+RW DL, DVD-RW2, DVD-RAM and DVD-D. Each of these types of DVD media were created for use with different kinds of media files, and to be used with different types of devices and players. Most DVD media can be used with a number of players and devices; however, some of the more advanced versions of DVD media such as the DVD-RW DL require specific devices that are compatible with the technology.

There are different levels of quality in each of the types of DVD media and some are designed for specific types of files such as audio or video and are enhanced with features to bring out the best sound quality possible. The technology that goes into making the different kinds of DVD media also differs greatly. The DVD-R-DL versions along with others are created using a dual layer, which is also referred to as DVD-R9. This format comes from the standard version of the DVD-R disc but is capable of holding more files and can utilize two layers of the disk that are recordable. For most users that do a lot of burning and need a lot of storage space on their DVD’s, the DVD R DL format does the job and does it well.

The type of DVD media that you choose to use the most depends on how you are going to be using it and what kinds of files you are going to burn on them. With all kinds of DVD media you are able to do a lot with them and they are readily available in most media stores or discount stores. They are relatively inexpensive depending on the quality and the brand that you want to buy. If you are going to burn files that require specific features or quality, you are probably going to want to go with a name brand or high quality choice for DVD media. As technology constantly takes us in new directions, there are bound to be many more uses and formats of DVD media that come about in the years to come to add to the already great uses we have.
